Roberto & Proposal’s Engagement session at Monteverde Lodge

He contacted me to surprise Jennifer in the mountains of Monteverde. His proposal happened quietly during a candlelit dinner, and the next day we shot their engagement photos, framed by the Gulf and, far off, the open ocean waters.

We had planned the session days ahead, so I already knew exactly where to position myself for the proposal photos. We waited nearly 30 minutes, hidden near the roaring waterfall, until they finally appeared — and she happily said yes.

The plan was to ride horseback up together to the viewpoint at Hotel Los Lagos, where he quietly popped the question with the volcano itself standing tall as their witness, right as morning light broke through the drifting clouds.

We spent the afternoon in Puerto Viejo, soaking in that easy Caribbean rhythm. A sunset engagement session, walking barefoot along the shoreline as the waves rolled in, with warm golden light wrapping around them the entire way there.

Her wedding had happened just the day before, and all she wanted was one more set of photos to remember it by — a trash-the-dress session at one of Costa Rica’s most popular waterfalls, still glowing softly from the whole celebration.

Always. Costa Rica’s rainy season brings some of my favorite light and some of the most romantic photos I’ve ever taken — rain has never stopped an elopement I’ve photographed, and it won’t stop yours either.
